Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Serena Lai is an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with over a decade of expertise in treating mood disorders, anxiety, OCD, stressor-related disorders, and psychosis – with a particular focus on first-episode psychosis. She specialises in managing complex and treatment-resistant conditions, drawing on a strong foundation in psychopharmacology to deliver tailored, effective care.

With clinical experience spanning both the UK and Italy, Dr Lai has worked across diverse settings; including community, inpatient, and forensic services. She currently serves as a Consultant Psychiatrist and Associate Medical Director at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, where she leads a specialist service that supports individuals through their first episode of psychosis. In this role, she oversees clinical operations, workforce management, and service development, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.

Known for her compassionate and collaborative approach, she works closely with multi-disciplinary teams to develop whole person, patient-centred treatment plans. She is committed to empowering individuals on their recovery journey, integrating psychoeducation to help them make informed decisions about their care.

Beyond her clinical expertise, Dr Lai has undertaken advanced leadership training at Harvard Business School, King’s College London, and IE Madrid. Her strategic insight into mental health service development and healthcare management ensures she remains at the forefront of psychiatric innovation, delivering the highest standard of care to those she supports.
