Kevin Feighery
Psychotherapist
My approach is dynamic, empathic, and relational using energy, regression and psychodrama integrating the Post Induction Therapy model of Pia Mellody, (PIT) and Richard Schwartz model of Internal Family Systems, (IFS).
Combined with years working with Mandy Saligari around Trauma, Mental Health, and Addiction. I have a particular interest in inner child wounding/ trauma and how this develops into intimacy issues, depression, and addictive processes. Fixing the inside issue with something externally.
We are all born with love, compassion, a true self until we fear or become afraid due to neglect, abandonment, rejection from years 0-17 which is crucial to develop a secure self. We learn from our family of origin in our attachment to self to adapt, minimise, take care of, avoid, just a few examples of the maladaptation’s we develop, and I love to explore this using Internal Family Systems work and Gestalt as I have done this in my own 12 Step journey and years of recovery.
Often, we make the mistake of blaming parents or others for this, “The Blame Game” when understanding repairing this through awareness sets us free from resentment to move forward again with the love and compassion we were born with. We all have our own demons, large or small, usually creating fear, shame and anger, which can lead onto any of the 15 recognised addictions, which need to be handled with respect and understanding to achieve trust, allowing us to look inside for the cause rather than being led astray by the symptom, alcohol, drugs, food, sex, work, exercise, co-dependency, eating disorders and any other maladaptive defence, relational CPTSD.
I value my custodial experience at HMP Pentonville and HMP Wandsworth seeing clients who had everything taken away from them, the same as what addiction does to families. and my own journey of recovery to gain a compassionate and loving understanding of each client who walks through the door. Being able to see each client as equal and having the empathy and unconditional positive regard in this moment.
My experience of being in the West End as an actor singer allows me to draw on the confidence and self-esteem to be able believe that any part of us can be changed if we have the self-awareness and guidance to manoeuvre the fear by relinquishing the control.
